International Photography Awards 2016- Family of Man
Shankar was awarded an Honorable Mention for the following pictures titled Focus and Eternal Wisdom at the International Photography Awards (IPA) 2016.
In 1939 Edward Steichen was given the assignment to curate a show for the Museum of Modern Art, in New York City. He asked 30 photographers including Cartier Bresson, Eugene Smith, and Dorothea Lange, to document the common links of humanity worldwide. Steichen asked the photographers to photograph the commonalities of Birth, Childhood, Love, marriage, and Death. The photographic documentation for this exhibition became the biggest-selling photography book in the history of photography.
This year IPA takes inspiration from the Family of Man, to document parallel circumstances in the world today, which produced those iconic works. IPA will divide this project into similar categories, and we invite you to participate in this exciting and deeply meaningful event, so the generations to come will have access to these images from around the world.

Black & White Spider Awards is the leading international award honoring black & white photography. A celebrated event that shines a spotlight on the best professional and amateur photographers in a prestigious annual global competition.
HONORABLE MENTION – Nature
Sunset at the Masai Mara, Kenya. It was a wonderful sight which left be breathless. This picture is a memory of that amazing experience.
NOMINEE – People
Naga Sadhus are a particular group of Shaivite saints who reside in the Himalayan Caves and come to visit the civilization only during the Kumbh Mela. This is the only event when these ascetic saints can be seen amongst the general Indian population.

Lady in veil shot in a remote village in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. She is a wonderful person who invited us to have a meal with her in her hut. This picture was shot while she was cooking for her kids.
